Mowbray Music is a subcommittee of the Mowbray Public School P&C Association.
We employ a professional musical director for each of the band and strings programs. Administration of the program is carried out by parent volunteers; if your child joins the music program you will be expected to assist in the running of the program.
No previous musical experience is required to join our beginner-level ensembles – Junior Strings and Training Band.
Ensembles rehearse once a week before or after school with a Conductor. Children have a lot of fun playing as part of a group and performing at school functions and music festivals. As your child’s musical proficiency develops, they will move on to more senior music ensembles.
Students are expected to be learning their instruments from an individual tutor either through the Music Program or privately to keep the standards high.
Lessons should be attended once per week during term and students are encouraged to practise at home. Students who receive tuition through the Music Program must join an ensemble.
Students can buy their own or hire an instrument through the Music Program.
Instruments are hired on an annual basis.
Musicianship is fostered as children master their new instrument, learn to read music and play music together as part of an ensemble. Open to students in Year 2 and above.
After one to two years in Junior Strings, students graduate into Chamber Strings. Children remain in Chamber Strings until they are at the standard required to graduate to Camerata.
Camerata is Mowbray’s elite Strings ensemble. Entry to Camerata is open to students who have shown a strong commitment to the Strings program and who are of a certain standard.
Strings is open to students in Year 1 and above.
